There are few things in life more unnerving than a job interview. This is especially true if you have been out of work for any long period of time. The job interview can be a fun experience if you do your homework first

and are prepared when you show up. Here are 8 tips to help you have a smooth job interview.

With online job companies like Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com you can post you resume for everyone to see. You can also take a pro active stance and research companies that are hiring. This will help you get in front of companies that you are interested in and that are interested in you.

Getting an interview and ultimately a job can become a numbers game. Depending on the competition it is to your advantage to get your resume in front of as many employers as possible. Once you have been contacted and an interview is schedule it is time to get your self prepared.

1. Try and learn as much about the company you are interviewing with as possible before you go into the interview. Most companies have websites that you can go and check out.

2. Have your spouse or a friend conduct a practice interview. Think of questions you are likely to be asked and practice you answers.

3. Arrive early and take your time before you go in. Being early shows you are interested and also helps you remain calm because you are not running late.

4. Bring a couple of copies of your resume and any other support documents pertinent to the type of job you are interviewing for. It is a good idea to have a copy of your references as well.

5. Unless you are told differently dress in business attire. Have a haircut and neatly styled hair. No gaudy jewelry.

6. Shake hands firmly and maintain eye contact when you are speaking and spoken to. Smile and appear confident yet relaxed.

7. Pay attention to the questions being asked and respond honestly to each one. Do not be afraid to sell yourself without sounding like you are bragging.

8. Be sure and thank the interviewer for their time and ask when you may hear back from them. Get their card before you leave for future follow-up.

It is not reasonable to expect to get a job offer on every interview you go on. For various reasons not every job is a match for you or for them. If you follow these 8 job interview tips you will do well and eventually you will find the right job.
